Kingswood Junction

0 Locks, 3.54 Miles, 1 tunnel. Now moored at Kingswood Junction.

Rather a cold and chilly day to be cruising but to fit in with Derek and Carrie’s arrangements on Uccello  we decided to move up to Kingswood Junction. Another reason was the long range weather forecast wasn’t looking too good towards the end of the week with more snow on the way. A stop at bridge 63 for water was our only other objective today.

As far a wild life was concerned we spotted a Kestrel and got really close to a Sparrow Hawk who just flew from tree to tree as we got close to him. Other than that we got our first and only sighting of a Badger which unfortunately had fallen into the canal and drowned.

At Kingswood Junction we are moored near the railway bridge and have had a few flurries of snow but nothing serious. Hopefully we may not be here too long as we have found that the Lapworth flight is still open ( our original choice of the route to Birmingham) despite a lock closure. The flight can be accessed from lock 20 or 21 normally and only 20 is closed at present. If and when they close lock 19, then the flight will be closed.

2083 locks, 4083.43 miles, 77 tunnels, 130 swing bridges and 54 lift bridges since Nov 2006
