Heading back to Dudley

0 Locks, 7.03 Miles. Now moored at Bentley Bridge.

All our arrangements for the forth coming week-end are now in place so it was time to head back towards Dudley. Overcast and cold conditions were not really conducive to cruising but at least it wasn’t raining. Before setting off we had our 3 hoses(Uccello’s 2 and our 1) hitched up together to reach the water point save having to move to fill up.

Wednesfield 038 Walsall Top lock with facilities on the left and Lock keepers cottage on the right.

The journey back to our current mooring was pretty uneventful except for Uccello picking up a trucker’s webbing strap which stopped them stone dead. Passing the bridge where we picked up a whole load of electrical cable yesterday we spotted a whole load of scrap wire in an empty plot of land where it looks like somebody is stripping the cable to recover the scrap copper. He doesn’t need to dump his rubbish in the canal thank you very much.

Wednesfield 034 Facilities block Sneyd junction. Sneyd Wharf on the left.

Not long after we moored up the clouds disappeared and the sun made a welcome appearance warming the boat and us.

Wednesfield 027 Rather cute duck house on the Wyrley & Essington Canal.

2105 locks, 4132.14 miles, 81 tunnels, 130 swing bridges and 58 lift bridges since Nov 2006
