Westport

It was to be an easy laid back sort of day with Robin and Jenny dropping us off in town while they went to the Coaltown Museum which we had visited previously. Geoff and Pauline also had their own plans for the day.

It was a bit like Napier with it’s Art Deco buildings which are well maintained. The other obvious point was the old hotel buildings which are now being used for all sorts of functions.Westport like other Gold and Coal mining towns have had more than their share of hotels in the past but majority have long since disappeared.

We walked along one side of the main street down to the harbour where the  fishing boats unload their catches straight into the Talleys processing plant. After meeting up with Robin and Jenny again we headed out to the harbour entrance for a different view of the town before returning back to camp.

I sooo love Westport. It is the place where I grow up. I have lots of happy memories there. Hope I can come back soon.
