Christchurch is still shaking!

drum

After the massive earthquake which shook Christchurch, New Zealand, over a week ago with such a large loss of life, there are still large aftershocks.  The above picture is taken from the New Zealand Geological website showing the earthquake seismological drums are still shaking 7 days after the initial quake. Seismological activity is also being reported from NZ’s 2 active volcanoes putting both of them on alert. Hopefully these will all settle down before anything serious happens again.

Latest reports are that at least 30% of the inner city buildings in Christchurch will have to be demolished and the remainder undergo strengthening. It will virtually mean a new city centre which is going to take probably a decade to complete.
