Overnight we had a lot of heavy rain and I was wondering how wet we were going to get guiding Derek out from our tight parking spot last night. We were parked at a POP that was a the property of a fellow NZMCA member, which is becoming very popular of late. They had had 3 earlier in the week and of course we had booked three sites for last night. There is only room for three vehicles, one down each side, and 1 across the front. We became the piggy in the middle which meant some pretty precise driving to get in or out. Robin offered his assistance and while I hid in Jenny and Robins van the motorhome came out a lot easier than it went in. See the last photo from yesterday and you will see what I mean. While there 3 other vehicles arrived for the night and couldn’t be accommodated so we were pleased we had rung through and booked the day earlier.
The rain had eased by the time we left but the showers continued as we drove south. Our destination was Mosgiel on the outskirts of Dunedin at the Taieri A and P Showgrounds. Robin was not impressed with the routes that both ours and Geoff’s GPS’s had taken and would have preferred route one although several kilometres further.
You may be able to spot us and Robin and Jenny’s van but Geoff and Pauline are hiding on the far left.
Talk about hilly, up hills and down dales we went, stopping on steep hills at the brow at traffic lights and we were pleased to settle on the Taieri Plains on the flat.
After lunch we headed the couple of miles into Mosgiel to get our bearings. I called in to see my cousin who I haven't seen in we don’t know how many years. A get together has been planned for Saturday afternoon and evening to meet up with all the rest of the family and my 90 year old aunt who is still living alone.
Must keep Sunday free though.
