Sandringham Estate.

64.7 Miles. Now at the Sandringham Estate.

Our second Caravan Club CL site proved to be better than the first site we visited as this one boasted a toilet and shower. Both basic but functional. We eventually left about 10.30 en route to Sandringham. Passing through Boston was slow and tedious due to major road works in probably the busiest area of town where many major roads intersect close together. It must have taken half an hour just to do 1 mile.

Built in 1897 Cross Keys Swing Bridge spans the River Nene and was originally a road/railway bridge until 1965, when it carries road traffic between Lincolnshire and Norfolk.

We arrived at Sandringham just on 1pm in sunny pleasant conditions. After checking in we were given a map of the facilities and the choice of what ever site we wanted, Wow. We opted for site 33 just close to one of the facility blocks. After lunch it was off for a walk through the Woodlands surrounding the estate. Along the way we spotted a gentleman who, by his suit and tie was totally out of place in the woods yet here he was sitting upon a log working with a laptop computer. Pretty good office I thought.

Gypsy Rover IV at Sandringham Estate Caravan Club site, one of the clubs most prestigious sites.

In the middle of the woods was a little shop which, as from tomorrow will be open all day, everyday until September. It’s conveniently placed between the Caravan Club site on one side of the Woods and the Camping and Caravanning club site on the other. The owner has a franchise which gives him sole selling rights and the two clubs are not allowed to compete.

We cannot believe how busy this camp is,as since our arrival there have been at least 3-4 arrivals every hour right up to after 8pm. Needless to say the place is now quite full and not many spare sites left. We are very impressed with the facilities, spotlessly clean as if they were just finished last week and not a hint of graffiti. Due to poor TV reception every power bollard has TV jack plug to connect each site to a booster system. The down side is that you need a 15ft coax cable which can be purchased from the office at £15. I would have thought that they would hire them out for casual visitors. Not too worry we will just catch up on one of the many DVD’s we bought to use on the boat but never got around to viewing.

A total of 468 miles, since 5 March 2011

You'll find all the Caravan Club sites have excellent, modern facilities. Some are more officious than others, but that's generally down to the Warden. On the aerial cable, they used to hire them out but too many went "walkies", so now you have to buy them. Get one made up at an electical shop, or make one yourselves. You'll need it!

Hi Geoff and Mags
Yes we thought 15 quid a lot will look around tomorrow. If all the sites are like this it'll be great. Happy cruising.
